An article written by professor and researcher Mohammed Ibrahim Alghbban, of King Saud University, has broken all precedents of academic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Israel. The professor is head of the Department of Modern Languages and Translation and explains that there were translation errors in the letters of the prophet Muhammad to the Jewish tribes of the Arabian Peninsula.
In the article, Alghbban underlines that Muhammad was on good terms with the Jews and that their differences were political and not religious:
“Erroneous assumptions about the origins of Islam, proposed by Oriental studies researchers in the previous century – some of which were written in Hebrew – led to a distorted understanding of manuscripts, wrong methodology, and negative influences on Hebrew-speaking Middle Eastern Studies researchers,” Alghbban wrote.
In Israel, the material was published in Hebrew in the journal Kesher, of Tel Aviv University. A statement from the university highlights the importance of the article to strengthen inter-religious relations between the two countries on behalf of peace.

Um artigo escrito pelo professor e pesquisador Mohammed Ibrahim Alghbban, da King Saud University, rompeu os precedentes de cooperação académica entre a Arábia Saudita e Israel. O autor é chefe do Departamento de Línguas e Traduções Modernas e explica que existiram erros de tradução nas cartas do profeta Maomé para as tribos judaicas da Península Arábica.
No artigo, Mohammed destaca que Maomé tinha boas relações com os judeus e que suas divergências eram políticas e não religiosas:
“Suposições errôneas sobre as origens do Islã, propostas por pesquisadores de Estudos Orientais no século anterior - algumas das quais foram escritas em hebraico - levaram a um entendimento distorcido de manuscritos, metodologia incorreta e influências negativas sobre os pesquisadores de estudos do Oriente Médio que falam hebraico”, afirma.
Em Israel, o material foi publicado em hebraico na revista Kesher, da Universidade de Tel Aviv. Conforme comunicado da instituição, o artigo é importante para reforçar as relações inter-religiosas entre os dois países em busca da paz.
