Until the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in August, five travelling libraries roamed the streets of Kabul, visiting schools and orphanages that had little or no reading material. However, given the political instability, many sponsors of this initiative cut off their support, thus putting a stop to these book-filled buses.

The good news is that, following authorisation from the Education Ministry this month, the buses are again roaming the city – and through online platforms the project is looking for supporters to keep the idea going.

Até o Talibã chegar ao poder do Afeganistão, em agosto, cinco bibliotecas itinerantes circulavam pelas ruas de Cabul e visitavam escolas e orfanatos cujo acervo literário é escasso. Porém, com a instabilidade política, muitos patrocinadores da iniciativa suspenderam o apoio, fazendo com que os autocarros repletos de livros ficassem encerrados.
A boa notícia é que neste mês, com a autorização do Ministério da Educação, os veículos voltaram a circular pela cidade – e agora o projeto busca incentivadores através de plataformas online para que possa se manter ativo por mais tempo.
